Home security is an essential part of staying safe. Whether you’re going on vacation, leaving for work early, or prefer not to answer the door when you’re home alone, it’s a good idea to have home security measures in place. You can do several different things to make your home even safer when you aren’t there. From smart locks that will let only pre-approved people into hidden cameras so you can check up on the house from anywhere – here are four tips on making your home even safer when you’re away.

Add Window Screens

If you’re away from home for an extended amount of time, you’ll want to ensure you have window screens in place. Window screens are often overlooked when making a home safer, but they can effectively keep people out. If you have window security screens in place, it can be nearly impossible for people to climb into your home through the windows. Having window screens on all your windows also makes it harder to see in and climb out of them if there are bars on the windows. Another benefit of window screens is that they keep bugs out.

Add A Doorbell Camera

Doorbell cameras are easy to install and can help you track who is coming and going from your house. They’re also a great way to ensure you know who is at the door, even when you’re not home. If you don’t currently have a doorbell camera installed, now is a great time to add one. With a doorbell camera, you can keep track of who is coming and going without worrying that you’re missing something.

You can even track what time people are coming and going if you want to keep track of how long people are outside your house. If you notice something that seems off, you can check your camera footage to see what’s happening. You can also use your camera to track who is at the door when you’re not home. If a delivery person rings your bell, you can check the camera footage to ensure they’re at the correct address. If you notice that a person isn’t who they said they were, you can call the police and let them know.

Stop Mail Deliveries

If you know you’ll be gone for a while; you can stop your mail from being delivered, so no one has to go to your house to pick it up. You can do this by visiting USPS online and filling in a form to let them know when you will be away so they can hold your mail until you are home.

Keep A Car On The Driveway

It doesn’t have to be your car; it can be a neighbor’s car if you will be driving your car while away. But having a car on the driveaway can indicate someone is home and the vehicle is in use during the day. This can be a great deterrent for burglars if you are away on a short trip.

If you don’t have a driveway, park your car on the road outside your house instead.
