No one wants to get sick. But are we doing enough to avoid it? When we fall ill with a cold, flu or even a sickness bug, it’s enough to have us out of action for days, signed off work sick and losing money we can’t afford to lose. Wash your hands!

We should all wash our hands before we eat, but in today’s fast-paced world it’s easy to forget. At least most of us wash our hands after using the bathroom! However, to stop yourself from getting sick, you need to wash your hands as often as you can. Shaken someone’s hand? Wash yours. Touched cash? Wash them. Used a tissue? You’ve guessed it! Soap and water are always the best options, but if you’re at work for example then it might not be acceptable to head to the bathroom every few minutes so, consider purchasing some antibacterial hand gel.

Try not to touch your face

The amount of times we subconsciously touch our faces is staggering! Unfortunately, touching your face means allows germs easy access to your nose and mouth – making you more likely to become sick! So, try not to touch your face.

Sleep

It’s not always easy to get enough sleep. There’s always another episode of something to watch or the kids are keeping you up all night. However, sleep is actually a great weapon against illness. When your body is fully rested it means that it can fight harder against illness and disease, which is why getting 8-10 hours a day is so important!

Boost your immune system

The best way to boost your immune system is by giving it what it needs. Fresh fruits, vegetables, foods rich in Vitamin C and B6 are known to help keep illness at bay and Vitamin E is also a great antioxidant you should be including in your diet. So carrots, broccoli, spinach, sweet and white potatoes, nuts, seeds, leafy greens, soy and wholegrain cereals are the kind of foods you should be consuming plenty of. Avoid sick people!

If you have a friend or family member who is ill – avoid them until they’re better! If you’re at work with someone who is sick, then make sure you’re washing your hands and not touching your face!
