Our contributor, Katie, was lucky enough to go to the Brad Paisley concert in Chicago and here’s what she had to say about her experience:
As we walked into the First Midwest Bank Amphitheater in Tinley Park, IL., excitement was rolling off the crowds in waves and you couldn’t help getting caught up in it. When we found our seats, we were stunned. Neither of us thought we would be that close to the stage. As someone who is usually sitting on the grass or in the nosebleeds at concerts it was quite the treat.
We were unfamiliar with Leah Turner but I sure won’t forget her any time soon. That gal has got a set of pipes on her. She did a great job getting the crowd pumped up for the next act. When she started singing All the Single Ladies I think almost every woman (single or not) stood up and went nuts. The men were hilariously quiet, in our section anyways.
The crowd went wild when Randy Houser stepped out on stage. All I could think was, “If they are this crazy over an opening act how loud will they get when Brad steps out on stage? ….Maybe I should have brought ear plugs…” Then he started playing and I understood. When Randy Houser finished his set, he had a new fan in me. I must admit, after he sang Goodnight Kiss I was little bit in love with him. I could feel that 13 year old teeny bopper in me trying to fight its way out. As a “mature” 28 year old I wasn’t about to let that happen. No way, no how.
Yeah, right. Brad Paisley stepped out on stage and all bets were off. He has a stage presence like no other. When he walked out I was wholly unprepared for the screams from the crowd…it was more of a roar really. I was convinced I’d be deaf before he finished his first song. Being unfamiliar with Brad’s music I wasn’t sure what to expect. There was so much to take in at once. I spent a lot of the time just taking in the lyrics. By the fourth or fifth song I was in full blown teenie mode. Jumping, dancing, screaming. I couldn’t help myself; he is just that good.
His concert by far blew every concert I’ve been to right out of the water. I lost my voice for several days and it took about 48 hours before my ears stopped ringing but it was totally worth it. I don’t want to give anything away so all I’ll say is you have to experience it for yourself. Even if you aren’t familiar with his music like I was, just go. You won’t regret it. It was fun, entertaining, and most importantly it was GREAT music. I can not wait for the next time he has a concert in my neck of the woods!
