A Damp Basement

A lot of the time, you will end up with damp because of the grading of your yard. You may find that this is encouraging water to flood your home rather than draining away and this can cause major issues for you. By getting the job sorted now, you can stop the issue from coming back time and time again.

Your Deck Is Rotting

Wooden decks are somewhat vulnerable to rot, as well as deterioration. This is especially the case if it doesn’t get a lot of sunlight. Sometimes a couple of boards will rot, rather than the whole deck. That being said, rot is often pervasive. Rot, if you do not deal with it, can cause the rails to loosen and it can make the structure very unsafe. If you do have rot then it is important to remove all of the rotting boards. If you have any rip and repair work then make sure that you use a reciprocating saw, so you can cut the boards back to the joint.

Clogged Gutters

If you have clogged gutters, then twigs, leaves and even nuts will pile up over time. During a storm, this can cause water to leak over the top. Eventually, this can freeze on the sidewalk and create a major slipping hazard. You may also find that over time, this creates a leak in the basement. If you want to do something about this then you need to clean the basement once or even twice a year so you can keep the water moving. Consider putting in a gutter guard too, so you can keep your gutters free from debris.

Water Spots

If you have water spots on the walls or the ceiling then this is an urgent repair that you have to deal with. It shows that you have a leaking pipe in the ceiling or the walls. The best thing you can do here is hire a plumber. If you notice that the issue only shows up when it has been raining then this indicates that you need a roof repair. The toughest thing here is tracking down the leak. Water travels, and this makes it hard to pinpoint the original source. If you hire a professional however then they can usually help you out a lot with things such as this, so be mindful of that.
