Fourth of July Fruit Basket

Fourth of July Fruit Basket

Fruit is one of my favorite things to eat in the summer. My mom taught me how to make these super cute watermelon bowls for a fruit basket. You can do all kinds of designs, but I did stars for the 4th of July. You can use any fruit you like, but my favorites are:

Watermelon (of course)
Strawberries
Blueberries
Pineapple
Kiwi
Cantaloupe
Honeydew

I use a pen to draw my design. With a large, sharp knife, carefully remove the top 1/4 section of the watermelon. The more sections you cut, the easier it is. With a melon baller, scoop flesh from inside of watermelon, removing as many seeds as possible (unless you bought a seedless watermelon).  Prepare and cut your other fruit as you desire. Refrigerate fruits separately until ready to assemble, otherwise all the juices mix together and collect in the bowl.

Mix the fruit in a large bowl and transfer to the watermelon bowl, and serve.
