None of us are getting any younger!. It’s a fact, and we all have to accept it. And as we get older, we become susceptible to the signs of aging, from creaky bones to wrinkly skin!
Thankfully, we can combat the signs of aging. There is advice here on your bone health, so reading the article is a must if you want to prevent some of those older age problems (though not exclusively old age) such as arthritis and osteoporosis. And there is much you can do to preserve your youthful beauty on your face and body, taking steps to combat those first signs of skin aging, such as dryness, wrinkling, and crepey skin. And you don’t even need to consider plastic surgery to gain positive results!
If you want to reduce premature skin aging – and let’s face it, you do – consider the following suggestions. You can’t slow down time, but you can halt the processes that age you.
#1: Protect yourself from the sun
There’s nothing better than an afternoon in the sun, lounging in your garden or on the beach, with a book in one hand and a beer in the other. Bliss! Well, it would be blissful if it weren’t for the fact that the sun is responsible for most of the visible signs of aging on our face and body. The sun’s powerful UV rays can cause sun spots, degrade your skin texture, and reduce your skin elasticity, resulting in wrinkling and crepey skin.
When out in the sun, protect your whole body with the right sunscreen for your skin. Taking note of the question – Where is crepey skin most common? (hint: not just your face) – ensure you apply sunscreen and cover up some of the more vulnerable areas of your body below your face. And when possible, stick in the shade when you’re not sunbathing, as you will better protect your skin from further damage.
#2: Cut out some of your worst bad habits
We all have bad habits – some are worse than others – but when it comes to trying to combat the effects of aging, there are some habits that need to be dealt with as soon as possible.
Smoking is one of the worse, as the effects of the nicotine can quickly age your skin. It starves your skin of oxygen, which consequently dulls your skin and brings about the onset of wrinkles. Alcohol dehydrates your skin too, and it can deplete the Vitamin A levels which are responsible for producing collagen. And eating certain foods can make you look older, such as anything high in sugar and salt. There is more detailed information here. Giving up any habit can be hard to do, but if you are guilty of smoking, drinking in excess, and/or eating unhealthy foods, then you should let the effects of aging be a constant reminder to you as you battle to quit your vices. See your doctor too, for qualified advice on how to give up your bad habits.
#3: Eat a well-balanced diet
After giving up those foods that are bad for you, you should then focus on those foods that can prevent damage to your skin, and consequently reduce the effects of aging. Fruits and vegetables are key, as they are packed with the essential nutrients and vitamins needed for good skin health. Certain foods are also rich in collagen, that essential protein that keeps your skin looking fresh and supple. Take a look at these examples. And eat those foods that are high in skin-enhancing antioxidants, including papaya, blueberries, and broccoli. It would help if you also considered taking health supplements like Butylhydroxytoluene supplement, which is known for its powerful antioxidant properties and considerable antiaging benefits against the effects of UV rays, smoking, and ionizing radiation.
By eating a well-balanced diet, you not only look after your skin. You will also improve your overall health, so not only will you look younger for longer, but you should (in theory) also live longer too. Think about that the next time you are pondering what to buy at your local supermarket.
#4: Find ways to lower your stress level
It’s very difficult to avoid stress completely, but we do need to find ways of dealing with the stressors in our life. You see, when we are stressed, our body releases hormones that can age our skin cells and damage our complexion. It can also bring about the early onset of other aging signs, including body aches and gray hairs. There is detailed information here. Think about the things that stress you out, and when possible try and eliminate them from your life, for both your physical and mental wellbeing.
It’s possible to combat the effects of stress, even when you can’t completely get rid of your stressors. De-stressing techniques, such as going for walks, meditating, and laughing, are all useful in helping you counter the stress you feel. They distract your mind, help you to think positively, and where anti-aging is concerned, these techniques also lower the levels of those stress hormones that age your skin.
#5: Start a skincare routine
A daily skincare routine will serve you well, so ensure you stock up on your face creams, cleansers, and moisturizers to help you care for your skin. With the right products, you will significantly slow down the aging process, provided you consider the other items on this list too. However, care needs to be taken. Many products come loaded with chemicals and fragrances that might react with your skin, and leave less than desired results, so ensure you keep an eye out for these natural anti-aging ingredients when shopping for your beauty products.
Of course, you don’t necessarily need to spend a fortune on beauty products from the local store. You might have foods in your kitchen that can moisturize, cleanse, and exfoliate your skin, including the foods listed here, so as well as eating them, you might also add them to your beauty routine.
