“In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.” The famous words of 15th Century Dutch philosopher ring as true as ever. It speaks to the relativity of life and how one person’s perspective is challenged only by the availability of “test subjects” in relation to the point of relativity. Yeah, we thought that sounded confusing too, so in the interests of simplifying all of our lives, we’ve created a cheat sheet of simple hacks that you can use to make your life better, right now.
TRAVEL, IMMEDIATELY
You know how they say that “change is as good as a holiday?”, well a holiday is also as good as a “holiday” and after the year that was 2020, there’s never been a better time or excuse to dust off your passport and comfortable travel shoes and get moving. You might think that now is not a good time and that you “couldn’t possibly”, but there are several reasons why you should. Most notably, your mental health will thank you. After extended lockdowns, restrictions and heaven knows what else, our mental states depend on returning to a sense of normalcy as soon as possible. A trip abroad or even locally for that matter doesn’t just give us the usual highs of a holiday, but you’ll also be scoring some points for supporting everyone that works in the beleaguered industry that’s hospitality.
FINANCIAL HOUSEKEEPING
So you’ve been hearing a lot lately about “the great reset”, well it just happens to be the perfect timing for sorting out those lingering issues around the house and we’re not talking about remodeling the living room (although it couldn’t hurt), but rather your financial housekeeping. It’s a great time to pull out the calculator, log onto your online banking, and get stuck into the state of your finances. We know, we know, this is never a “fun” time but if you haven’t done this in a while then you must get to it as soon as possible. Far too many American women are living way beyond their means and this is a recipe for disaster when it comes to your future finances. No matter your current income or levels of savings (if any), creating a future that leads to financial independence starts with a plan, some smart advice from people who know – and one less credit card.
USING TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER
Ok, not everyone is crazy about having a million apps on their smartphones but knowing what the issues are in your life is the first step to finding apps that make a difference to you. You can organize your life in ways that our mothers could have only dreamed about, so learn how to use the best apps for specific purposes in your life. Need help keeping track of your finances? Done. Need to know the best places to eat? Done. Ever wanted to learn how to trade online? Easy. We’ve all had dang near enough of scam callers and unsolicited sales calls, well – you can also find apps that handle that for you. If you have children that need some monitoring or you want to know where you are, you can find current location by phone number, and keep tabs on the little people you love the most.
GET A HANDLE ON YOUR GYM MEMBERSHIP
There is just no way around it, managing a busy life becomes infinitely easier when you’re handling your health with the priority it deserves and this means getting in a few workouts a week. You don’t have to train towards becoming the next female powerlifting champion but getting in some good strong cardio and a little weight training now will set you up for future success. You can never start too early, but you can start too late and since prevention (here it comes) is always better than cure, find the workout program that works for you. There is everything from yoga and pilates to weight-training and cross-fit. Outdoor workouts, swimming, cycling…ladies, it’s time. Besides, as we head into colder winter months, remember this: summer beach bodies are built, in the winter.
YOU ARE YOUR OWN BEST LIFE COACH
No one knows you better than you. So if it’s time to make some changes, it’s also time, to be honest about the changes you need to make. (see what we did there?). Get a glass of wine, some alone time, and start the big “life audit”. What have you always wanted to do? What language have you always wanted to learn? What school did you always wish you’d go to? It doesn’t matter what it is if ever there was a time to get busy, it’s now. Life has taught us all some amazing lessons this past year and if you expect to achieve big things then you need to make big plans and big changes. Nothing good comes from thinking small ladies, so in all things…
Dream big.
