What is matcha?
Matcha is premium green tea powder from Japan used for drinking as tea or as an ingredient in recipes. While other green teas are grown throughout the world, matcha is unique to Japan. It is the heart of the Japanese way of tea and has been celebrated in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony for hundreds of years. One cup of matcha is equivalent to ten cups of brewed green tea in terms of nutritional value.
What are the benefits of matcha green tea?
1. ALL DAY ENERGY WITH INCREASED FOCUS – Matcha provides 4 to 6 hours of mild steady energy as it acts as both a stimulant and a relaxant. This is ideal for focusing on whatever the day throws your way.
2. METABOLISM BOOST – Consuming matcha green tea can increase thermogenesis (the body’s own rate of burning calories) from a normal 8%-10% of daily energy expenditure, to between 35% and 43% of daily energy expediture.
3. IMPROVED SKIN HEALTH – Scientists have discovered that Matcha Green Tea helps protect the skin from harmful UVrays, while improving blood flow and oxygen levels lifting the overall quality of the skin.
4. 137x THE ANTIOXIDANTS OF BREWED GREEN TEA – Antioxidants are essential as you age to boost your body’s natural defenses against oxidation. Researchers have found that a high level of dietary antioxidants can prevent many age-related diseases.
Recipes
You can add matcha to almost any dish! Here are a few recipes I put together.
Green Tea Cupcakes with Green Tea Buttercream Frosting
I have to admit that I was not always a fan of green tea, or any tea really. I just don’t like the taste of “flavored” hot water. But, I knew that green tea was really beneficial. Adding green tea powder to drinks and recipes is a great way to add the nutritional value while hiding the bitter taste of green tea. I really enjoyed the Slow Brewed Iced Green Tea. I added lemon and mint, and I would have added honey for the perfect flavor combination. Adding green tea to cupcakes is a great way to get kids to eat something that is healthy!
