Suzie’s Natural Food Products Review

I received free products from Good Groceries in exchange for a review. All opinions expressed herein are my own.

Around this time last year, I had finished my weight loss regimen. I use the term “finished” loosely because I did not reach my goal. I just stopped, due to lack of motivation or whatever reason I had at the time. I had lost over 20 pounds and had never felt better! I saw numbers on the scale that I hadn’t seen since college. It boosted my confidence and I was just generally happier than I had ever been. I look back and think “Why did I stop?” because, of course, it all came back. At first I didn’t notice a difference when I went back to my old eating habits. Then it seemed like all the weight came back overnight. Well, I’m back on the right track (mostly) and determined to get back to the way I felt.

I was so happy to be introduced to a line of food products that is natural and organic and tasty! Suzie’s by Good Groceries Company has a plethora of products that can be found in natural, specialty, supermarket, convenience, and club stores, and even on Amazon.com. I have said this before, and I will say it again. I am always skeptical of food labeled as natural or organic for two reasons. First, if you have one bad experience with organic food, you think all of it is bad. I’m talking about taste. The quality of organic food as it relates to taste is everything. Second, I’m becoming more and more aware of label scams by big companies. For example, I started buying a certain brand of chicken that is labeled as “cage free” and claims the chickens are fed an “all vegetarian diet.” To the un-informed person, this sounds great! It did to me at first. I pictured healthy chickens frolicking in a meadow with the sun setting behind them. Boy, was I ever wrong! “Cage free” does NOT mean “free range.” Imagine hundreds of chickens locked up in a coop with no way to get out. Sure there are no cages, but they are still in dire circumstances. And chickens aren’t vegetarian. Did you know that?! I sure didn’t! I’ve gone off on a tangent, but I get worked up about these issues.

Thankfully, I can actually read everything on the ingredients label on Suzie’s products. There are no azodicarbonamides. (Say that ten times fast.) Whole wheat flour, dehydrated jalapeno, parsley, chipotle powder, and garlic are just some of the ingredients in the Naan Crackers. These were definitely spicy! I couldn’t put them down. A serving is only 5 crackers, but they are thick and very crunchy, keeping me satisfied in between meals. I am also a big fan of Suzie’s Flatbreads. These go great with cheese and come in 10 different flavors! Suzie’s also has breadsticks, puffed cakes and thin cakes (similar to rice cakes), organic crackers, and Spelt & Kamut flatbreads. Don’t worry if you are gluten free, they have some gluten free products too! They even have gluten free biscuits for babies.

I gave up drinking dairy milk about two years ago. The reason was that I get plenty of calcium and decided drinking just water would be better for me. But I still wanted something to eat with cereal or to make smoothies with, because I just like the taste of those foods better with  milk. I tried almond milk, soy milk, and even coconut milk. Some were better then others. Good Groceries also sent me Suzie’s Quinoa Quinoamilk Beverage to try. I had heard of quinoa before as it is a recent trend. (In fact, I can’t hear that word without thinking of this commercial.) But I never knew there was quinoamilk as well. It has a lot of health benefits, including Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Calcium, and it is gluten free, lactose & dairy free, soy and rice free. Also, there are no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or genetically engineered ingredients. Despite all awesomeness, I admit I was afraid to try it! It didn’t smell bad. I picked Vanilla and started pouring, and it seemed a little more brown than one would think vanilla would look like. It actually tasted pretty good! I can see myself using this to make my protein shakes after workouts.

I have incorporated Suzie’s products into my diet and replaced sugar, chocolate, and chips with Suzie’s crackers and flatbread and I have already lost a couple pounds! It is really refreshing to find natural and organic foods that taste good too. I definitely recommend you give Suzie’s a try!
