Red Velvet Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 C flour
  • 1/4 C Hershey cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 C unsalted sweet cream butter softened
  • 3/4 C light brown sugar
  • 1/2 C sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 Tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 C red sanding sugar
  • 24-36 candy cane Hershey kisses unwrapped
  • 1 cookie sheet fitted with parchment paper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  • Using a standing mixer, cream together the butter, sugar and brown sugar
  • Add in the egg and vanilla and mix until combined
  • Add in the red food coloring and mix until combined
  • In a large bowl, mix the flour and cocoa powder until combined
  • Using a small ice cream scoop, scoop out the dough and roll into a ball
  • Roll the cookie dough into the red sanding sugar and place onto the cookie sheet
  • Repeat steps for 11 more cookies
  • Bake in the oven for 10 minutes
  • Once cookies are baked, let cool for 2 minutes before placing a Hershey kiss in the center
  • Repeat steps with remaining dough
  • Let cookie sit for 20 minutes to cool completely
