Do It Yourself Mad Men Bar
I recently had a housewarming party and the theme was “Mad Men” because my roommate and I are obsessed with that show! If you are unfamiliar with it, Mad Men is about an advertising agency in New York that takes place during the 60s. It’s so fun to see the styles and technology of that era. And they are always drinking at work! Every office has a mini bar. Here is everything you need to create your own Mad Men bar.
Dorothy Thorpe Roly Poly Glasses – These silver-rimmed glasses can be found on eBay and look exactly like the ones used on the show.
Ice Bucket & Tongs – I found this very retro bucket on Etsy. There are many at the local antique mall as well.
Muddler – I had no idea what this was until I started reading directions on how to make different drinks.
Shaker – Shaken, not stirred. 😉
Stir sticks – for a decorative touch
Fruit – oranges, limes, lemons
Random drink ingredients – sugar, maraschino cherries, Rose’s lime juice, lemon juice, cinnamon, Angostura Bitters
Alcohol – Some liquors of that era include Beefeater Gin, Smirnoff Vodka, and of course you will need a few stellar whiskeys and bourbons.
This bar was such a hit with my guests and I had a lot of fun bartending. Everyone was very impressed with my “skills.” Whether you are having a Mad Men party, a 60s party, or just a cocktail party, this bar setup is a must have!
