How to Create Extra Bathroom Storage on a Budget
Bathrooms tend to be the smallest room in the house, so it isn’t always easy to find space to store all those bits and pieces that need a home. The problem is that clutter looks messy and makes a small bathroom feel even smaller. Nobody likes to step over umpteen bottles when they walk in the shower. Nor does it look good if there are stacks of jars, lotions and potions all over your vanity unit.
Extra storage is the solution to this problem, but if you don’t have much money to spend on a brand new bathroom with built-in storage, you might be wondering what on earth your options are.
Extra Shelving
Shelves are an inexpensive way to add extra storage in a bathroom. It’s dead easy to put up a shelf if you have the right tools, so make this your weekend project. A glass shelf above the sink is useful if you need a space for a toothbrush cup or some small bits and pieces. In a small bathroom, make use of the wasted space above a toilet by fitting some shelves. You can stack your spare toilet rolls up there, or use it as a handy place to keep some paperback novels for those extra-long bathroom sessions.
Clever Towel Rails
You need space to store towels in a bathroom. There is nothing worse than stepping out of a hot shower only to discover you left your towel in the bedroom. Unfortunately, towels take up quite a lot of space, so you might not have room for more than one. One way to solve this issue is to install a ladder radiator, such as those from the Zehnder radiators range. Another way is to fix extra towel rails on the back of your bathroom door, so they are out of sight, but easily accessible.
Under the Sink Storage
Don’t overlook the area beneath your bathroom sink. This space is often wasted, which is a real shame as it can provide plenty of storage for cleaning products and miscellaneous items. Replacing a pedestal sink with a vanity unit is a good way of maximising your storage capacity. Look for units with a cabinet and drawers for makeup and beauty products.
Door Stores
Bathroom cupboards are very useful, but a traditional cupboard is not always the best use of space when you have a multitude of small items. It is hard to find individual bits and pieces when they are piled inside a cupboard. To prevent problems, store smaller items in stackable baskets or boxes or fit drawers inside your cupboard. That way makeup and other small containers won’t get lost.
Fit Hooks
Wall or door hooks are useful for hanging small towels, dressing gowns, and electrical items such as hairdryers.
None of the above methods of creating extra storage in a bathroom are terribly expensive, so if you are running out of places to keep your spare shampoos and shower gels, try one or two out in your bathroom.
